These levels are intended as learning guides rather than strict rules. Individual words and verbs may appear earlier or later depending on the course, textbook, region, or learning program being used.
The Custom Verb Pool allows you to create your own personalized study list.
Add verbs from the Reference or Study pages using the + button, or search directly within the Custom Verb Pool. Save verbs from lessons, reading, homework, or any verbs that need additional review, then study only those verbs using your selected settings. Custom Verb Pool can be found in the Settings menu.
Study sessions are filtered using your selected CEFR Levels, Verb Types, Pronouns, Tenses, and Custom Verb Pool settings.
Only verbs matching your current study settings are included.
Large study lists are divided into smaller groups called chunks.
Chunks make it easier to focus on a manageable set of verbs, track progress, and avoid being overwhelmed by very large verb lists.
You can adjust chunk size in Settings.
Yes. When the same study settings, CEFR levels, verb types, Custom Verb Pool, and chunk size are used, VerbCompass creates the same study chunks each time.
This can be useful for teachers, tutors, study groups, or learners who want to return to the same set of verbs later.
Changing the selected levels, verb types, Custom Verb Pool, or chunk size will change which verbs appear in each chunk.
Reference is for looking up verbs, checking conjugations, comparing forms, and reviewing meanings.
Study is for practicing selected verbs through study cards using your chosen levels, tenses, pronouns, and verb settings.
Many learners move back and forth between Reference and Study while working through lessons, reading, or homework.
Yes. In Settings, use Verb Types to include regular, irregular, and reflexive verbs.
You can study reflexive verbs by themselves or combine them with other verb types.
You can also save specific reflexive verbs to your Custom Verb Pool for focused practice.
Yes. VerbCompass can be used as a classroom supplement for verb recognition, homework support, vocabulary review, conjugation reference, small-group study, or independent practice.
Teachers can assign specific verbs and students can save those verbs to a Custom Verb Pool for focused review.
VerbCompass is intended to complement language instruction rather than replace a structured course or curriculum.
Some Spanish verb forms can appear in more than one verb or share similar spellings.
When this happens, VerbCompass shows all matching results so you can compare them and select the correct verb.
VerbCompass Free includes Study and Reference access for all A1 verbs, plus complete Reference access for 25 additional verbs of your choice selected from the full verb library. Those selected verbs may also be added to your Custom Verb Pool for focused Study.
Once one of those 25 verbs has been selected, it remains available and may be viewed again without using another selection.
In Reference and Custom Verb Pool search results, a small lock identifies verbs that have not yet been selected. Opening or adding one of these verbs uses one of the 25 available choices.
Full access removes these limits and provides unlimited Study and Reference access to the complete VerbCompass verb collection.
Search using the dictionary form of a verb such as hablar, comer, or vivir. This is often the fastest way to locate a specific verb.
Search using forms such as hablo, comíamos, fueron, or habrían. This is useful when reading Spanish and you recognize a form but are unsure which verb or tense it belongs to. VerbCompass will locate the matching verb and highlight the selected form.
Search using English words such as eat, speak, return, or begin. This helps when you know what you want to say but do not yet know the Spanish verb.
Enable Infinitive Only when you want results limited to verb entries rather than matching conjugated forms. This can make searches easier to scan.
Use the + button to add verbs directly to your Custom Verb Pool. This is useful for saving verbs from lessons, reading assignments, conversations, or personal study.
You do not need to type an entire word. Partial searches often return useful matches. Very short searches may take a moment when Infinitive Only is off because VerbCompass is checking conjugated forms across the full verb library.
Teachers can assign a specific chunk for practice. Students using the same settings will receive the same chunk contents.
Students can build a Custom Verb Pool from vocabulary lists, assignments, or reading exercises and focus only on those verbs.
